As their name implies, SBS Sermon Notes are brief outlines of sermons preached in past years by SBS founder David B Loughran. They are not 'word for word' copies of sermons, but outlines' which may be used by Christian preachers and teachers. The Notes are all based on the Bible. Indeed their singular claim to any worth is that they do not depart from the Word of God, but plainly present what the Scriptures have to say on a given subject. Bible quotations are often given in full, so that even those who do not possess a Bible can quote from it. Early sermons are being updated with all Bible references from the Authorized King James Version. For an explanation as to why this is being done, see our booklet entitled: Bible Versions
There is no hard and fast method for delivering these sermons. Preachers and teachers will need to decide that for themselves. Though each Sermon Note is merely a foundation, a framework, a chassis on which to build your own presentation, it is complete in itself and can be read out at a service and/or tape-recorded for distribution. Or you could add your own introduction, illustrations, visual aids etc., and deliver the sermon in your own way. Make it your sermon; so much so that were you to present it a dozen times, or hear it delivered by a dozen different preachers, it would be unique and alive on every occasion. It will be your sermon. That is the beauty of individuality. You may do as I do and use the notes in the following way:
Allow about 5 minutes for your summary. If time permits, ask questions to see if your audience has understood and remembered what you have taught. This is a good way of assessing how much has been taken in. Then close with a hymn and a prayer which relate to the subject presented. The whole sermon (excluding readings, hymns and prayers) will last about 35-45 minutes. You may take longer if you wish, depending upon the awareness of your audience and the time available etc. But beware! because the longer your talk, the less your audience will remember. Use a blackboard or flip chart if necessary and write up headings and key phrases. This will help fix your message in the minds of your hearers.
You have our permission to print and photocopy these Notes for distribution. There is no need to mention MatanYah Learning Centre's name when you deliver these sermons either in print or on tape. See No Copyright for more details.
